Sam Neas, Artist in Residence
Sam Neas, a New York City and Tulsa, OK-based contemporary choreographer, was
born and raised in Atlanta, GA, and began his dance training at Studio 23 under the direction of
Shannon Brown. Sam lived in Los Angeles for about ten years where he performed in various
shows, including the television show Angie Tribeca. Sam has trained extensively with and as-
sisted many choreographers and educators such as, Marguerite Derricks, Melody Lacayanga,
and Stacey Hamada-Orleans. Most notably, Sam was a selected choreographer for the 2020
Capezio ACE Awards, a prestigious choreography competition held in Hollywood, CA. Founded
in 2023, Sam is the creator and artistic director of a professional contemporary company; Articu-
late Dance Company.
Sam’s passion for teaching and choreographing has provided him with the opportunity to
teach at world renowned studios such as Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway in
New York City, as well as The Manor in London, UK. Sam has become a highly sought after
choreographer, with his work receiving numerous choreography awards as well as a nomina-
tions for Choreography of the Year at the Industry Dance Awards. Prior to moving to New York
City, Sam was resident faculty at Project 21 from 2019-2022, under the direction of Molly Long.
In 2023, Sam presented his debut evening-length production with his company, Articulate Dance
Company, in Atlanta, Georgia. He also presented choreography at the Peridance Studios Lega-
cy Week Choreography Showcase held in New York, NY, and at Small Plates Choreography
Festival in Austin, TX. From 2016-2018, Sam traveled nationally with the dance convention, In
Studio Dance. His goal in teaching and choreographing is to challenge and expand the dancers
comfort zone, blending various contemporary techniques, while creating an enthusiastic and
constructive environment.
